Melissa Blevins, Principal

Melissa Blevins is honored to serve as principal of Blue River Elementary. With 26 years of experience in education, she has served in a variety of teaching and leadership roles across multiple school communities.

Ms. Blevins began her career in Blue Valley as a classroom teacher, spending one year at Leawood Elementary before teaching third grade at Prairie Star Elementary for 10 years. In 2011, she transitioned into instructional coaching and later served as both Director of Curriculum and Assistant Principal at a charter school in Kansas City.

Ms. Blevins has previously served as a principal in both Topeka and Lawrence. She now serves as the proud Principal of Blue River Elementary in Blue Valley. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to building positive, inclusive school cultures where students, staff, and families feel valued and supported. She has led innovative educational initiatives, strengthened student engagement, and fostered safe, nurturing learning environments that support both academic achievement and personal growth.  She is particularly proud of the Blue River team's collective commitment of implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), creating a system that provides every student with the targeted support needed to achieve academic, social, and behavioral success.

As an educational leader, Ms. Blevins believes in the transformative power of education and the importance of strong relationships in creating successful schools. She is passionate about quality instruction, empowering teachers, inspiring students, and partnering with families to ensure every child reaches their full potential. Her vision for Blue River Elementary is to cultivate a love of learning while creating a supportive, enriching environment where all members of the school community can thrive.
